  • 6 cups whole milk, divided
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup long-grain white rice (use a heaping half cup)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large saucepan, mix together 5½ cups of whole milk, sugar, and salt. Stir well and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add Rice: Once boiling, add the washed rice (a heaping half cup works best). Stir to combine, then reduce the heat to low.
  3. Cook: Let the rice simmer gently for 50-60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens to a creamy porridge.
  4. Finish the Pudding: Remove the saucepan from heat, then stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the pudding to cool slightly.
  5. Serve: Pour in the remaining ½ cup of milk, stir to combine, and serve warm or chilled. For an extra touch, sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon on top if desired.
