How to Make Cake Pops: Step-by-Step

Ingredients:

  • 1 leftover dry cake or 1 box cake mix
  • 1 can of icing
  • 1 package of candy melts
  • 1 package of candy sticks
  • Foam board (to hold cake pops while drying)
  • Sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cake: If you don’t have leftover cake, bake a cake according to package instructions and let it cool completely.
  2. Make cake crumbs: Use a food processor to pulse the cake into fine crumbs, or crumble the cake by hand until it reaches a breadcrumb consistency.
  3. Mix with icing: In a large bowl, combine the cake crumbs with icing (start with about ¾ of the jar). Mix well until the texture resembles dough—smooth and moist, but not too sticky. If it’s too sticky, add more cake crumbs; if it’s too dry, add more icing.
  4. Form cake balls: Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls and place them on wax or parchment paper.
  5. Chill: Place the cake balls in the refrigerator for a few hours to firm up.
  6. Melt candy coating: Melt the candy melts in the microwave according to the package instructions, using a low heat setting and stirring frequently. If the candy melts become too thick, you can add a bit of shortening to thin them out.
  7. Insert sticks: Dip the end of each candy stick into the melted candy, then insert it halfway into each cake ball. Allow the coating to harden before proceeding to the next step.
  8. Dip and decorate: Dip each cake pop into the melted candy coating, letting the excess drip off. Before the coating dries, add sprinkles or other decorations.
  9. Dry and enjoy: Place the finished cake pops in a foam board to dry, keeping them round and evenly coated. Once dry, they’re ready to enjoy!

These cake pops are perfect for parties, or as a fun and tasty way to repurpose any leftover cake. Enjoy!
