Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1½ cups saltine crackers, crumbled
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix Beef Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crumbled crackers, milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne (optional), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form Beef Steaks: Shape the beef mixture into eight ½-inch-thick patties.
  4. Flour and Brown: Lightly coat each steak in flour, shaking off excess. In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown each patty on both sides until golden.
  5. Assemble in Dish: Arrange the browned steaks in a single layer in the baking dish.
  6. Make Gravy: Whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup milk in a bowl until smooth. Pour evenly over the steaks.
  7. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until the gravy is bubbling.
  8. Rest and Serve: Let cool for a few minutes before serving with mashed potatoes or rice. Enjoy!
