White Chocolate Orange Almond Hot Chocolate

A cozy winter drink with bright citrus, creamy white chocolate, and a hint of cinnamon.

When the cold winter months settle in, there’s nothing I cherish more than wrapping my hands around a warm cup of hot chocolate. It’s my go-to winter indulgence—comforting, soothing, and endlessly customizable.

I love experimenting with new flavors, and this time I wanted something extra cozy and a bit luxurious. The most important part of any hot chocolate is, of course, the chocolate itself. Using a high-quality chocolate makes all the difference, so I reached for my favorite white chocolate from Callebaut.

This recipe combines sweet, silky white chocolate with bright, fruity orange and a subtle nutty richness from almond paste. A touch of cinnamon ties everything together and creates the perfect winter harmony.

To make the flavor really shine, the base of this drink starts with an infused white chocolate ganache. Letting it rest in the fridge for a few hours—or overnight—intensifies the citrus, vanilla, and almond notes beautifully. And the best part? This ganache can be made up to a week ahead, so you can whip up a perfectly smooth, decadent cup anytime the craving hits.

⭐ White Chocolate Orange Ganache (Makes 3–4 cups of hot chocolate)

Ingredients:

  • 120g white chocolate
  • 60g heavy cream
  • 30g orange juice
  • 30g almond paste
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • Good pinch of cinnamon (about 0.4g)

Instructions

  1. Melt the base:
Gently melt the white chocolate and almond paste together over a bain-marie. Set aside.
  2. Infuse the cream:
In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream with orange zest, the scraped vanilla bean, and cinnamon.
Bring just to a light simmer, then remove from heat. Let the mixture infuse for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Make the ganache:
Pour the warm infused cream over the melted chocolate mixture. Blend with a hand blender until smooth.
Add the orange juice gradually while blending to form a glossy, silky ganache.
  4. Chill:
Transfer the ganache to the fridge and let it set for several hours or overnight for the best flavor.

⭐ For 1 Cup of Hot Chocolate

You’ll need:

  • 300g milk of choice (I love using oat milk for a lighter base that highlights the orange)
  • About 50g ganache (add more if you prefer it sweeter)
  • 30g whipped cream (optional)
  • Cinnamon + orange zest for dusting
  • Orange wedge for garnish

To Serve

  1. Heat your milk to about 85°C (185°F).
  2. Add the ganache and blend until smooth, creamy, and slightly frothy.
  3. Top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, fresh orange zest, and a decorative orange wedge.

Enjoy the coziest, most fragrant winter hot chocolate you’ve ever had!
