A Taste of Tradition & Wellness

Hibiscus tea instantly takes me back to the cobblestone streets of Mexico, sipping Agua de Jamaica on hot, sun-filled afternoons. Known as Flor de Jamaica, hibiscus is a striking flower with a bold ruby color and a refreshingly tart flavor.

I was first introduced to hibiscus in Mexico, but I didn’t realize that hibiscus and Jamaica were one and the same until I began leaning into a more wellness-focused lifestyle. After reading How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger, I learned more about hibiscus and its impressive health benefits—and it quickly became a staple in my routine.

I enjoy hibiscus year-round: warm as a soothing tea, sun-steeped on summer days, or mixed into refreshing drinks like this strawberry lemonade. The possibilities are truly endless.

Why You’ll Love This Hibiscus Tea Strawberry Lemonade

  • Simple to prepare: Just a few ingredients and easy steps—perfect for beginners.
  • Fully customizable: Make it sweeter, tangier, or fruitier to suit your taste.
  • Family-friendly: A delicious, naturally sweet alternative to store-bought drinks.
  • Crowd-pleasing: That vibrant ruby color always earns compliments.

Good-for-You Benefits

  • Hibiscus: Rich in antioxidants and may help support healthy blood pressure.
  • Strawberries: Packed with vitamin C and immune-boosting nutrients.
  • Lemon: Adds brightness while supporting immune health.
  • Maple syrup: A natural sweetener containing trace minerals like zinc and manganese.

Customizing Your Hibiscus Strawberry Lemonade

One of the best parts of this refresher is how easy it is to make it your own:

  • Add sparkle: Replace half of the water with sparkling water for a fizzy version.
  • Try other fruits: Raspberries or peaches add a fun seasonal twist.
  • Make it extra refreshing: Serve over plenty of ice with fresh herbs.

In-the-Kitchen Tips

  • Steep hibiscus for 5–7 minutes for balanced flavor; up to 10 minutes for a bolder taste.
  • For sun tea, steep hibiscus in a clear pitcher under direct sunlight for 2–3 hours.
  • Brew the hibiscus tea 1–2 days ahead and chill it to save time.
  • Start with less maple syrup and adjust gradually to taste.
  • Garnish with strawberry slices, lemon wheels, and fresh mint for a picture-perfect finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight pitcher in the fridge for up to 2–3 days.
