Ingredients for Slow Cooker Chicken Bolognese Pasta

  • 1/2 lb (200g) penne pasta
  • 1/2 lb (200g) ground chicken
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 cups (500ml) diced or crushed tomatoes
  • 1/5 cup (50ml) red wine, optional
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube, crumbled
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken Bolognese Pasta

  1. Load the slow cooker:
Add the ground chicken to the slow cooker. Season with salt, pepper, and the bay leaf. Pour in the minced onion, garlic, crushed tomatoes, crumbled bouillon cube, and red wine (if using).
  2. Slow cook:
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours without lifting the lid.
  3. Cook the pasta:
When the sauce has finished cooking, boil the pasta on the stovetop until al dente, following package instructions.
  4. Combine:
Drain the pasta well and stir it into the bolognese sauce in the slow cooker. Let it sit for 10 minutes so the pasta can soak up all that flavor.
  5. Serve:
Top with shredded cheese and fresh cracked pepper. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Chicken Bolognese

  • Add finely chopped carrot and celery for extra depth and sweetness.
  • The chicken bolognese sauce is incredibly versatile—serve it over regular pasta, veggie noodles, or even cauliflower rice.
  • If you prefer, swap penne for rotini, farfalle, rigatoni, or any shape that holds sauce well.

Storage Tips

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2–3 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of water to loosen the sauce.
  • For best results, freeze only the meat sauce, then add freshly cooked pasta when reheating.
