Ridiculously Easy 20-Minute Chicken Tacos

Looking for a weeknight dinner that’s fast, flavorful, and completely foolproof? These juicy chicken tacos come together in just 20 minutes—no measuring, no fuss, and no thinking required. They’re the kind of tacos you can make on autopilot, yet they taste like they came straight from your favorite food truck.

Tender, perfectly seasoned chicken, a punchy green sauce, warm tortillas, and fresh toppings… it’s everything you want in a taco, minus the effort.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Ready in 20 minutes from start to finish
  • Minimal ingredients (just soy sauce, taco seasoning, and garlic for the chicken!)
  • Super juicy, flavorful chicken thanks to air frying
  • Optional green sauce that takes everything up a notch
  • Perfect for tacos, bowls, burritos, or salads

House favorite? Absolutely. Mindless? In the best possible way.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Chicken

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • ½ tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 clove grated garlic
  • 2–3 tbsp taco seasoning (Siete brand recommended)

For the Avocado Aji Verde

  • ½ avocado
  • ½ cup mayo
  • 3 oz cotija cheese
  • ½ cup cilantro (stems + leaves)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Juice of 1–2 limes
  • 2 tbsp water (plus more if needed)

For Serving

  • Tortillas
  • Cilantro & red onion
  • Lime wedges

How to Make Them

1. Season the Chicken

Trim the chicken thighs if you like. Toss with soy sauce, oil, and garlic. Sprinkle on taco seasoning and mix well.

2. Cook the Chicken

Air fry at 400°F for 10–12 minutes, until golden, juicy, and slightly crispy around the edges.

(No air fryer? See notes below.)

3. Blend the Green Sauce

While the chicken cooks, blend the avocado, mayo, cotija, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, and water until smooth and drizzly.

4. Chop the Chicken

Let it rest briefly, then chop into bite-sized pieces. Squeeze fresh lime on top for extra brightness.

5. Assemble & Serve

Spread some green sauce on a tortilla, pile on the chicken, and finish with cilantro, onion, and more sauce. Prepare to fall in love.

Alternate Cooking Methods

  • Oven: Bake at 425°F for 20 minutes (or 400°F for chicken breasts).
  • Stovetop: Sear in a hot skillet for 4–5 minutes per side until cooked through.

Cook chicken to 165°F internal temperature.

Tips for the Best Tacos

  • Add a little extra taco seasoning if the chicken looks under-coated before cooking.
  • Thinner green sauce? Add water. Thicker? Add more avocado or mayo.
  • Serve with pickled onions for a fun, tangy upgrade.
  • Works great in bowls, quesadillas, burritos, salads, and nachos!
