  • Fresh, ripe strawberries (preferably large ones)
  • A sharp knife or paring knife
  • A cutting board

How to Make Strawberry Hearts:

  1. Choose the Right Strawberries:
    • Select ripe, fresh strawberries that are firm but not too soft. You’ll want them to be large enough to carve out a heart shape, but not overly ripe, as they could fall apart.
  2. Remove the Green Tops:
    • Use the knife to cut off the green leafy tops (the calyx). This will give you a clean, flat surface to work with when shaping the strawberry.
  3. Shape the Strawberry into a Heart:
    • With the pointed end of the strawberry facing down, slice a small “V” shape out of the bottom. This removes the tip and gives the berry the bottom point of a heart.
    • Next, carefully slice the sides of the strawberry, rounding them to create the curves of the heart shape.
    • You can make multiple heart-shaped strawberries by repeating the process for as many strawberries as you need.
  4. Optional: Remove the Seeds (for a smoother look):

  • 2 lbs fresh strawberries (medium to large)

  • 2 cups dark or milk chocolate chips

Directions

  • Prepare the Strawberries: Rinse the strawberries and gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Shape the Hearts: Use a small, sharp knife to carefully carve out the stem from each strawberry in a circular motion. Then, slice the strawberry in half. At the top center of each half, cut a small V-shape to create the top of the heart.
  • Insert Sticks: Gently insert a wooden stick into the bottom of the heart shape to make a handle for easy dipping and serving.
  • Melt the Chocolate: Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue heating in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  • Dip the Strawberries: Dip each strawberry heart into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the dipped strawberries on a sheet of parchment paper.
  • Let the Chocolate Set: Allow the chocolate to firm up by letting the strawberries dry on the parchment paper until the chocolate is completely set.
