Homemade Christmas Jam: Festive Flavor in Every Jar

There’s nothing quite like capturing the spirit of the holidays in a jar, and this Christmas Jam does exactly that! Bursting with cranberries, strawberries, oranges, and warm spices, it fills your kitchen with cozy aromas and promises a sweet-tart taste of festive cheer with every spoonful. Perfect for holiday breakfasts, afternoon teas, cheeseboards, or gifting, this jam is more than a simple spread—it’s a little jar of holiday magic.

Why You’ll Love This Jam

  • Vibrant & Festive: Deep red color and enticing aroma make it holiday-ready.
  • Sweet-Tart Flavor: Cranberries and strawberries balanced with orange and warming spices.
  • Versatile: Spread on toast, swirl into yogurt, use as a dessert topping, or pair with cheese.
  • Giftable: Makes a thoughtful, homemade present for friends and family.

Ingredients (Makes 8 Half-Pint Jars)

  • 40 oz frozen unsweetened strawberries, crushed (fresh works too)
  • 1 lb fresh cranberries
  • 2 tbsp orange zest (about 2 oranges)
  • ¼ cup bottled lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 5 lbs granulated sugar
  • 2 (3 oz) pouches liquid fruit pectin

Optional: Add a splash of brandy or Grand Marnier for a festive twist.

Instructions

1. Prepare Canning Supplies

Before cooking, set up your canning equipment: a large water bath canner with rack, 8–10 half-pint jars with new lids and bands, a jar lifter, canning funnel, ladle, and a non-metallic spatula. Wash jars and keep warm in simmering water. Warm lids in a small saucepan of water to soften the sealing compound.

2. Combine Fruit & Spices

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot (8-quart capacity), mix crushed strawberries, cranberries, orange zest, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cloves.

3. Cook the Fruit

Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Reduce heat and simmer 15–20 minutes until cranberries pop and fruits soften.

4. Add Sugar

Stir in all 5 lbs granulated sugar until fully dissolved, ensuring no crystals remain on the pot’s bottom.

5. Boil & Add Pectin

Return to a full rolling boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in both pouches of liquid fruit pectin for 1 minute. Do not continue boiling.

6. Test for Set

Optional: skim foam. Spoon a small amount onto a chilled plate; if it wrinkles when pushed, the jam is ready.

7. Fill Jars

Using a funnel and ladle, fill sterilized jars, leaving ¼ inch headspace. Remove air bubbles with a spatula. Wipe rims clean.

8. Seal & Process

Center warm lids on jars, screw on bands fingertip-tight. Place jars on the canner rack, cover with 1–2 inches of water, and boil for 10 minutes (adjust for altitude if needed).

9. Cool & Store

Remove jars, place on a towel, and let cool 12–24 hours. Check seals; lids should be concave and not flex when pressed. Label and store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.

Serving Suggestions

  • Breakfast: Spread on toast, scones, or croissants; stir into oatmeal or yogurt.
  • Dessert: Fill thumbprint cookies, tarts, or layer cakes; drizzle over ice cream.
  • Savory: Pair with cheese boards, glaze roasted meats, or serve with holiday ham.
  • Beverages: Stir into hot tea, sparkling cider, or festive cocktails.

Christmas Jam is a timeless way to bring joy, warmth, and holiday flavor into your home. Whether enjoyed on toast, gifted to loved ones, or added to festive recipes, this jam will become a cherished part of your holiday traditions.
