French Onion Potatoes

French Onion Potatoes are a comforting and flavorful side dish that’s perfect for cozy dinners, potlucks, or festive gatherings. This recipe layers thinly sliced potatoes with a rich, creamy mixture of sour cream, melted butter, and French onion soup mix, then tops it all with melted cheddar cheese for a savory, crowd-pleasing finish

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, melted butter, milk, and French onion soup mix until smooth.

Step 3: Arrange the sliced potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Step 4: Pour the sour cream mixture over the potatoes, ensuring they are well-coated.

Step 5: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Step 6: Remove foil, sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the potatoes are fork-tender.

Step 7: Remove from oven and let rest a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!

Serving Tips:

  • Pair with roasted chicken, ham, or steak for a satisfying meal.
  • Great for holiday spreads or potlucks.

Storage:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven for best texture.

Helpful Notes:

  • Add garlic powder, paprika, or fresh herbs for extra flavor.
  • Substitute low-fat sour cream or cheese for a lighter version.

Chef Tips:

  • Chef Gordon Ramsay recommends topping with chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme before baking for added aroma and flavor.
