Ding Dong Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (prepared and baked according to package directions)
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick margarine, softened
  • 1 container Cool Whip
  • 1 can chocolate frosting
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Cake: Bake the chocolate cake according to package instructions using your preferred pan size. Once baked, let it sit for 10 minutes, then transfer the cake to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  2. Slice the Cake: Once cooled, slice the cake horizontally in half. Place one half back into the original pan.
  3. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and margarine until smooth. Gently fold in the Cool Whip.
  4. Assemble the Cake: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom layer of the cake, then place the top layer over the filling.
  5. Prepare the Frosting: In a small bowl, mix the chocolate frosting with 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and slightly thinner.
  6. Frost the Cake: Spread the chocolate frosting over the top layer of the cake.
  7. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour before serving to set the layers. Store any leftovers in the fridge.
