Delicious Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 quarts chicken stock
  • 3 cups cooked chicken
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Use a fork or pastry cutter to cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Stir in 1 cup of milk and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Generously flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  4. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into 2-inch squares. Don’t worry about perfect shapes.
  5. Gently lift the squares with a floured spatula and place them on a floured plate, separating layers with more flour to prevent sticking.
  6. Meanwhile, bring 2 quarts of chicken stock to a boil in a large pot.
  7. Drop the dumplings one by one into the boiling stock, stirring gently as you add them.
  8. Let the dumplings cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked. Add the cooked chicken and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley for a perfect touch of flavor.
