Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread

This Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread is tender, buttery, and full of festive color! Made with a simple buttermilk quick bread base and holiday sprinkles, it’s perfect for Christmas breakfast, brunch, or gifting to neighbors and friends.

With a fluffy inside, a sweet glaze, and a pop of holiday cheer, this Christmas bread is a must for your holiday baking list. Best part? It’s quick to make—no yeast, no rising, just mix, bake, and enjoy!

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted & cooled)
  • ½ tsp almond extract (or vanilla)
  • ½ cup Christmas sprinkles (jimmies – not nonpareils)

For the Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 3 tbsp buttermilk (plus more as needed)
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • Christmas nonpareils (for topping)

How to Make Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread

  1. Prep the Pan – Move your oven rack to the upper third. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients – In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, butter, and almond extract.
  4. Combine – Gently stir wet ingredients into dry until just combined. Fold in sprinkles. Do not overmix.
  5. Bake – Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until center is set. Cool 5 minutes in pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Let cool completely (bread is dense—allow 1–2 hours).
  6. Glaze & Decorate – Whisk glaze ingredients to a thick, pourable consistency. Drizzle over cooled bread. Sprinkle with nonpareils. Let glaze set before slicing.

Recipe Tips

✨ Don’t overmix – Stir just until combined for the most tender crumb.
✨ Cool completely – For clean slices and set glaze, patience is key!
✨ Sprinkle smart – Use jimmies in the batter (they won’t bleed). Save nonpareils for topping only.
✨ Make ahead – This bread tastes great the next day and makes a beautiful homemade gift.
