Cheeseburger Eggrolls: A Crispy, Cheesy Twist on a Classic Favorite

Cheeseburger Eggrolls bring together the juicy, savory flavors of a classic cheeseburger with the irresistible crunch of a golden eggroll wrapper. This inventive dish transforms familiar ingredients into a fun, flavorful appetizer or snack that’s perfect for parties, game days, or anytime you want to impress with something unique and delicious.

The secret to these eggrolls lies in the well-seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar cheese, and a crispy exterior that adds an exciting texture contrast. Tangy pickles and onions can be added to cut through the richness, and a side of your favorite dipping sauce ties everything together beautifully.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package egg roll wrappers

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Step 2: Cook the Beef

Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Continue until no pink remains, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3: Season the Mixture

Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine all the flavors. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 4: Add Cheese

Fold shredded cheddar cheese into the beef mixture while it’s still warm, allowing it to melt slightly and create a creamy texture.

Step 5: Assemble the Eggrolls

Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner facing you (diamond shape). Moisten the edges with water. Spoon a generous amount of filling into the center. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly, sealing the top edge with water. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 6: Fry the Eggrolls

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, enough to cover the bottom. Fry the eggrolls in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until they turn golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Step 7: Serve

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or spicy mayo. Garnish with fresh herbs or sesame seeds for an added touch.

Tips & Variations

  • Veggie Boost: Add finely chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach to the beef mixture for extra nutrition and flavor.
  • Cheese Swap: Try Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or mozzarella for different cheesy profiles.
  • Spicy Twist: Mix in chopped jalapeños or hot sauce to give the filling some heat, perfect with spicy dipping sauces.
  • Baked Version: For a lighter option, bake eggrolls at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, turning halfway through for even crispiness.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover eggrolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes to keep them crispy. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the wrappers soggy.

Chef’s Note

“Eggrolls are incredibly versatile and can be filled with nearly anything you love,” says Chef Jamie Oliver. “Just be sure your filling isn’t too wet, or the wrappers won’t crisp up properly.”
