We knew when we stumbled upon this recipe that it would be a winner, and after a few tweaks, we perfected the balance of cookie base, gooey caramel, and rich chocolate. Ingredients
- ¾ cup butter, melted
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 11 oz bag of baking caramels
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease an 8×8 baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a small saucepan, combine the caramels and heavy cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda until well combined.
- Press half of the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top. Then pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate layer.
- Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
- Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 18-20 minutes, or until golden.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing and serving.
