  • Notes:

Ingredients:

  • 5 original Oreos
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon caster (superfine) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plain (all-purpose) flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the batter:
In a large microwave-safe mug (with a capacity of at least 350 mL / 12.5 oz), mash together 4 of the Oreos with the milk until mostly dissolved. Add the caster sugar, flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder, and stir until well combined.
  2. Add the surprise Oreo:
Press the extra Oreo into the center of the batter, then cover it with the remaining mixture.
  3. Microwave:
Microwave on full power for 1 minute (based on an 1100-watt microwave), or until no raw batter is visible. Enjoy immediately!

Notes:

  • Storage: This mug cake is best eaten right away. It’s not suitable for storing.
  • Substitutions & Tips:
    • Oreos: Feel free to use any brand of chocolate sandwich cookies.
    • Milk: This recipe works with dairy or non-dairy milk substitutes (soy milk works particularly well).
    • Sugar: Regular granulated sugar can be used if you don’t have caster sugar. The texture may be a bit denser.
    • Flour: You can omit the baking powder if you use self-raising flour instead of plain flour.
    • Cocoa Powder: Ensure you’re using unsweetened cocoa powder, not hot cocoa mix.
  • Troubleshooting:
If your cake turns out rubbery, make sure to stir the Oreos and milk thoroughly for about 1 minute before adding the other ingredients. Also, be careful not to overcook the cake—1 minute is typically enough for most microwaves!
